the beautiful everyday…

I went walking through the streets and along one of my favourite bush tracks the other day. The sun was shining and the sky was that gorgeous Australian blue that I didn’t realise existed ’til I lived overseas for a while. I saw noone but a lone black cockatoo that flew above and called out to me (at least I think it was to me..) with that cry that makes me think that perhaps he should live by the sea. I hadn’t felt particularly inspired to take photos when I set out but I took my camera anyway and before I knew it I was lost in the moment and in the end had to rush back to make sure I wasn’t late picking up my girl from school. There was nothing that stood out, nothing extraordinary but when I got home and sifted through the images I saw all this beautiful stuff staring back at me and I remembered that there’s beauty everywhere… We  just have to remember to look for it.

william & kate are great :)

Okay, I will admit with no shame whatsoever that I was just a little bit excited about William & Kate coming to town. I like to think of myself as a republican who has a healthy fascination with the royal family. There is something quite exciting about seeing the prince and princess in the flesh. Perhaps it harks back to some little girl + fairy tale thing… I don’t know… but I was thrilled to get these few pics:

an unconventional beauty

There’s much to love about photography as a form of creative expression but one of my favourite things is the way in which looking through the lens really does give us an opportunity to see beauty where perhaps we’d otherwise not. Capturing an image in a single frame allows us the time to look longer and notice more.

My friend and fellow photographer Mandy Schoene-Salter and I recently took ourselves on a photographic mission to an old, disused hospital in the mountains. It was such a great location and we spent hours wandering in and out of rooms and down the hallways, which were quite spooky in some places!

Here’s my pick of the bunch…
